How to Convert WebP to JPG

What Is a WebP File, and Why Won't It Open?

WebP is a modern image format created to make pictures very small, so many popular websites use it to load images faster. The catch is that some programs have not caught up. Right-click "Save image" on one of those websites and you often get a .webp file back. Your photo viewer, an older phone, or a work app then refuses to open it.

JPG is the format that has worked everywhere for years, which is why converting is the quick fix. Once it is a JPG, the same picture opens in any viewer, uploads to any form, and drops into any document without a complaint.

The Picture Stays the Same

The photo you see does not change when you convert. It keeps its full width and height, and the colours stay as they were, because the tool simply re-draws the WebP as a JPG. A see-through background cannot survive, since a JPG has no transparency, so any clear area is filled with plain white.
